Just Peachy

Aug 05, Paint & Wall Covering

With Expert: Dewey Sadka

President of Dewey Color SystemŽ, he holds patents on color systems for both consumers and industry centered on the language of colors.

Q. Our newly purchased home has both a formal living room and family room with one wall that is entirely paneled with wood. It looks like it may be mahogany or another dark wood. Also, the family room has a fireplace on that wall and open wood beams on the ceiling. What paint colors do you suggest to maintain character while keeping it updated?

A. Consider painting the walls a peach or a warm tan to give warmth and make the room less choppy. Keep the ceiling white to accent the beams. Then, give the space uptown pizazz by making the main wall in the family room a cobalt blue with gilded framed art and mirrors to create excitement. Or go rustic with an appetizing clay pot wall in your dining room accented with wooden framed mirrors or art.
