Q. The man in my life is buying everything black and stainless steel -- kitchen, dining room, living room. I need color. Which colors would blend well without looking too bold or sterile?

A.

Many colors can be used with black and stainless steel. If you want to "warm" it up, red or dark beige would work well. The dark beige, and accents in varying shades of tan through brown, will give a more sophisticated look.

For "cool" colors, you can choose from a bright green, turquoise or blue.

You can also bring in color in fabric accents, pillows, throws or window treatments, which will also bring in texture, helping to add more depth to the rooms.
