It’s a simple concept – design a room around the most coveted technology product on the market – the iPod. Everyone, it seems, either has one or wants one, and designers Roxann Lloyd and Jennifer Weyman decided to bring its modern design to life inside four walls.
The shape and color of iPods are what makes them so visually appealing -- squares, circles, rectangles, vibrant colors and sleek design. When brought to life in the form of a teen girl’s bedroom, the design will grow with her as she matures.
Llloyd and Weyman had a large job on their hands – first to go was the floor-to-ceiling flowered wallpaper. Next on their list – remove more than 4,000 staples that upheld the circus-tent style pink fabric gathered at the center of the ceiling. Removing the floor-to-ceiling mirrors proved to be a difficult task as well, as many of the pieces had cracked over the years. The dark blue carpet and lilac trim were nixed as well.
The first part of the renovation saw a new splash of color. The designers chose Benjamin Moore's "Yosemite Yellow" as a cheerful, yet up to date backdrop, covering the ceiling as well to hide its downward slope. The trim was painted in the same color to bring continuity to the room. Chocolate brown, dill pickle green and bright pink were used as accent color to add visual pop and creativity.
New bedding was brought in to compliment the Stainless Steel framed platform bed from Mauer Design. The solid chocolate brown side creates a more subdued environment, while the reversed shows festive polka dots that match the valance.
Above the bed hangs a colorful round tabletop, transformed into modern wall art. Representing the center of the iPod, the art anchors the room by tying together the shape and color elements.
Cognitive of the storage needs of teen girls, Lloyd and Weyman installed mirrored boxes to further illustrate the iPod design. Lighted cubes on both sides of the bed serve as night stands while the stainless light bar (shaped similar to the iPod Shuffle) highlights two metal display frames.

The modern circular ceiling light fixture replicates the tuning wheel on an iPod. Futuristic and fun, it complements the polka dots found on the bedding and window treatment, as well of the small round wall mirrors.
Exuberant, colorful, and modern, the renovated bedroom incorporates all of the elements needed to create a space fit for a young girl to mature and express her budding style.
